Here's a dive into my file of patriotic antique postcard images. I only actually own a few of these, as they are unusual for my collection. I primarily buy very old town scenes and architecture or specific themes like cotton and gas stations, all of which work very well with doing genealogy. I love seeing a town as it was when my great great grandparents were living there.
The cards below demonstrate the mind set of their times. I think they're good reminders.
This card of Mt. Vernon is my oldest, postmarked in 1899. I got it on ebay and had it returned to the US from England. See how the flag is hand colored.
I think the prettiest one is the Yankee Doodle drum. Which one stands out to you and why?

The fourth one is my personal favorite...I like the black and white. Very old fashioned and timeless.
ReplyDeleteAnother great take on the word. When I started this little game I had the notion that everyone thinks a little different and that the results would be varied. Everybody, in some cases, is the same but very different. That's why this little corner of the blog-world is so interesting.
Those are amazing! It is hard to pick a favorite, but I think I'd go with the one with the slogan "Let the Eagle Scream". Who doesn't want to hear that?

it was the kids singing yankee doodle dandy that caught my eye the most.

I find the Daughter of the Regiment one very interesting. She has a Barbie figure and we think that ideal is only common nowdays?
ReplyDeleteA century ago, there were MANY patriotic societies like this and the male version with the cross swords. Most fell away, but a few still remain.
