Before we leave...

I want to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving! And that you eat hearty, but each lose two pounds. Except Aunt Becky who must only maintain.

While I'm away basking in Sunny California, which is supposed to be rainy, I have a request of you. Tell me all about these Wii things and XBox 360 monsters. I hate such, but my mother wants to get us a Wii for Xmas without J's knowledge. He has an old PS2 at his father's and it seems like the world revolves around him getting new games.

Without him knowing my mother's specifics, he really doesn't want a Wii, says XBox 360 does most things a Wii can do, plus much more. And it comes with two games now.

My mother wants me to buy it and she'll pay me back. Well, I haven't bought it yet, b/c I really don't want to front it right now.

Do you know of these things I speak? Do you have guidance?

I asked the Daver about your question here. He says this: the XBox 360 is kind of for older kids and the Wii is geared more towards people who are (his words here) "not hard core into gaming." I think the Wii would be a better fit for you guys.

And have a Happy Thanksgiving! Eat tons of turkey and take lots of naps!

Thanks, Auntie and Daver. Interesting the older kids part. It means he could grow into it.

See, J is pretty hard core at his dad's. He loves military games and is constantly commenting on graphics quality. He would go all night if he could - and he has! It was something his stepbrother (pre leaving for college) could do together.

He told me a bit ago (he witnessed my toolbar's google search wii vs. xbox - damn that learning to read stuff) and he said if he got a Wii, he would really consider it more of a gift for me.

Yeah.

I have experience with all things Wii, as one lived in the homestead until recently.

I loved the Wii and so did the boy. What I really liked about it was that a lot of the games were geared toward standing up and moving, versus simply sitting on the couch. The Mario games that they have for it are freaking awesome and Wario Ware is pretty fun. All around, I think a Wii is a better fit for a kid, though I must admit that I don't have any experience with the XBox at all.

I hear you about the world revolving around getting more and more games. The boy drives me insane some days!

My son has the XBox, but he is 15. I regret getting it for him last year as we never see him as he is always in his room. Prior to that we had the PS2 as well and same thing.
With as interactive as you are with J I would say get the Wii. My brother-in-law brings his to the holiday gatherings and all the kids and adults can play it. Plus you can play against each other on the games. I think the Xbox you can too but the games the boy gets are all shoot 'em up, kill 'em type games so none of the family is into that.
The Wii Fit is all the rage now as well. They keep having stories on the news about people using it to get in shape. I am thinking maybe that will be the next big purchase.

XBox 360 is the one...
Z has an XBox @ home & a Wii (bought by grandma) at his grandparent's.
The XBox can do so much more (esp if he likes military games; my boy lurves his Halo & is slowly acquiring the entire Call-of-Duty series) - but the Wii is fun is you really want to do some family gaming w/bowling & tennis & so forth...

P.S. I wanted to get the Wii Fit (for me) but it continues to be sold out 'round here; guess I don't want it THAT bad...
