Yesterday, however, I had a situation that indeed made me go "hmmm." My neighborhood was invaded by a
I was walking to the mailbox and noticed two large birds with great wing spans circling. Without looking too closely, I figured they were hawks, although I've seen owls around here, too. I thought to myself that I was glad the cats are indoor only. When I realized the birds weren't being territorial and then saw a few more flying, I knew the answer was turkey vultures.
I found their roosting tree just across the field from my house, maybe 100 yards away:
Enlarge it. There are at least 10 in this picture.
This guy kept to himself and was right outside my front door:
Obviously the neighborhood is in a state of decline.
Before the exciting invasion, I could only be so creative as to apply "hmmm" to two types of hummers. Go figure.

Hmmmmm....
These are truly awesome "hmmmms"
Turkey vultures, huh? Makes you wonder what the neighbors are putting in that compost pile, doesn't it?
I still have no ideas....
I almost went the "hummer" route with mine. I pass a dealership on the way to the girlfriends house all the time. I said hmmm..hummer, maybe.
The turkey vultures are kind of cool birds. They used to hang out on the balcony of the office building I used to work at. The building had reflective windows. the birds used to "see other birds" in the windows and charge the glass. It was entertaining.
haha! Hummers! I never would have thought of that...very good :-)
Those turkey vultures are pretty interesting. I guess we might have them around here, but I don't recall ever seeing one.
Good job (no pun intended). There are quite a few turkey vultures in the tree. A little advice, don't look up.
Enlarging that picture with the shit ton in teh tree literally made me go Hmm...
Hilarious~~
I have lots of buzzard photos. I need to dig them out. But I did get a post on this word up finally.
Hmmmmmm -- oftentimes when we are riding, I will admonish Z and/or P to pick up the pace, the buzzards are circling!
I don't think we have Turkey Vultures in the North and if we do.. Hmmm.. I have yet to see one...Great post...
